Creatively Supporting Young People with Additional Needs

The Creative Bridges delivery team will be offering workshops for museum and gallery professionals in Spring 2019.  We are currently evaluating the needs of the sector and would love to hear from you if you have any specific training needs, or are able to share expertise.

We want to make measurable change in the sector when working with and for young people with additional needs.  We believe our workshops will centre around the following for young people with additional needs:

  • Improving the visitor experience
  • Developing co-production opportunities
  • Offering work experience and opportunities to develop soft skills for work
  • Improving opportunities to showcase young people’s creative talents

The team are involved with discussions around sector needs and aims through the following networks:

Creative Minds
“A learning disability led discussion about quality, leadership, inclusion and collaboration in the Arts”

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Network
“The National Gallery and the Museum of London have partnered to form a network of museums, galleries and other heritage sites around the country.  The Network is open to SEND teachers as well as colleagues from across arts and heritage organisations who would like to share best practice in special needs education.”

Cultural Inclusion
“Children and young people with disabilities do not have equal access to cultural and arts opportunities
We want to change this. We want schools, cultural and arts venues and disability organisations to co-produce better and more opportunities for children and young people with disabilities to engage with arts and culture.”
